Plan to spend part of your Memorial Day at Civic Park in Walnut Creek for the City’s 30th annual tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.  The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m., with opening remarks from Mayor Justin Wedel.  Reverend Dwane Michael will give the invocation and blessing.

Author Carrie Pepper will provide the keynote address.   Her book, “Missing on Hill 700,” is a compelling story of love and loss surrounding the disappearance of her brother, Marine PFC Tony Pepper, during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam.

The Walnut Creek Concert Band will provide music, and the Pleasant Hill Army Recruiting Team will present the colors and close the ceremony with the traditional laying of the wreath at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in front of City Hall.  Light refreshments will also be served following the ceremony.

North Broadway will be closed to traffic between Civic Drive and Lincoln Avenue during the Memorial Day ceremony.  The annual free event is sponsored by the City of Walnut Creek as a way to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  For further information, please contact Communications Manager Betsy Burkhart at burkhart@walnut-creek.org
