Continuing Education Class – Animal Response, Walnut Creek Civic Park Community Center

This class will cover animal safety during normal CERT operations and will demonstrate what happens with rescued animals after they are brought in by CERT teams during a disaster. 

What will the class include? 

Presentations and hands on demonstrations, some with live animals. Practice using a slip lead, how to safely crate an animal, complete necessary documentation, and how to set up an animal staging area. 

Who should attend the class? 

Any CERT who would like to enhance their skills with regards to emergency animal response or anyone who has an interest in becoming a part of the Animal Staging team. If you completed your CERT training before 2014, you may not know about animal response. The new instructions added for SAR teams address a very possible situation not pointed out before: the family pet meeting you at the door and in need of attention -- even before the search begins. The safety of the team is top priority, and these added instructions may make the difference.
